MARYVILLE – To provide support to local libraries for pandemic recovery, State Senator Rachelle Aud Crowe (D-Glen Carbon) announced six facilities across the Metro East will be awarded nearly $175,000 in state grants to enhance their services.
“Local libraries are a vital resource for continued education and growth,” Crowe said. “This grant ensures libraries are equipped to serve all community members, especially individuals at higher risk of contracting COVID-19 and who have safety concerns during the pandemic.”
The Illinois Secretary of State’s initiative aims to respond directly to difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant provides funding for libraries to modify services, transform spaces and develop resources for their local recovering workforce and to ensure all operations can be provided safely and effectively as the pandemic continues.
The following library districts in the Metro East will receive funds:
- Bethalto Public Library: $25,000
- Caseyville Public Library: $23,500
- Hayner Public Library, Alton: $24,317
- Illinois Heartland Library, Edwardsville: $25,000
- Mississippi Valley Library, Collinsville: $25,000
- Six Mile Regional Library, Granite City: $50,000
Approximately $172,817 in funding was granted to libraries in the 56th Senate District. For a full list of libraries receiving a grant, click here.
